RobertTX has it right about the playing heck in small passages; I recently did a cylinder head job and when cleaning/insepcting the push rods I saw some debris inside of one. After a half an hour struggle with a piece of coat hanger, I was able to remove a little plug of that stuff. Surprised it didn't ruin the push rod end or the rocker because of lack of lubrication. It came from the junk I used when putting on a side cover gasket 10 years prior. I hate RTV. Why not try going to a rubber gasket? You may be able to find one the correct size. Depending on the flanges on the bowl, an "O" ring may even work. Tell me the ID, OD and thickness you need, and I'll check to see if I have a motor that would take the same size gasket. - Slughammer
