Thats really not the place to use RTV. A new gasket is only a couple bucks. NAPA or I got mine from my IH dealer along with a new filter screen as mine was ripped.

Permatex RTV red or copper is the only one you can use for continous summersion in oil or gas. I don't put nothing back together without a very thin layer on the gaskets and haven't had a gasket leak in the past 25yrs but I don't use it on a gas bowel.
