The "other" site was refering to "todays" bigger tractors that have a huge power bulge!! Those tractors have a lot more power at below rated speed, and can take some lugging with out problems.
Example: A CNH MX270 is rated 235 at the PTO, with a max of about 270hp at rated speed. At a little less than rated speed, those engines will make up to 300 hp. Some guys are running those engines on the power bulge, and throttleing back to do so. This is something you don't want to do with an older tractor that's NOT designed to be run this way.
The manual on my newer tractor says NOT to pull more than 80% power out of the PTO for extended peroids of time, BUT, it's not one of the new computerized all electronic models either.
