We raise hay and sell a couple thousand bales a year to people with horses, mostly timothy and some alfalfa. Make sure you know what you are getting into. We had a big problem w/one of the ladies that was running one of the stables we sold too. We had put 2,000 bales in her loft, a month goes by, no check, but previously had been pretty prompt w/payment. Well, then she calls and says she don't want it and we gotta take it out, and she is not going to pay us to take it out, so we "take our time" getting it out, 3 months later. Well, it musta not been too bad of hay cause she fed it all and we threatened to take her to court over it and she then sent a check. Another thing to consider is if you are going to be selling to a big stable you have to be on a somewhat regular schedule as they will go through alot of hay and not always have a place to store all they are going to need for the year, meaning you are gonna have to bring hay in the winter and whatnot too. Make sure you have a good labor source cause they ain't gonna want to wait around to get there hay. Another lady we sell grass hay to, she couldn't be any nicer. She has just a couple of horses her self, so there is not as big of a risk w/bad hay, because it's not like she is boarding 30 other peoples horses and responsible for what they eat.
