Oliver 5-gear engine dates

Larry Gay's Guide to Hart-Parr Oliver tractors says that the 5-(timing)gear engine in the Oliver 70 row crop was replaced by the 3-gear engine in 1938, but a friend who is a member of the Hart-Parr Assn. says his Dad bought a 70 with 5-gear engine after WW II. When did Oliver change to the 3-gear engine in the 70-77 series?
