Electrical Concern - 48 Farmall Cub

I have just obtained a 48 Farmall Cub tractor with the battery missing. The previous owner had installed a 6 volt ignition system on it. I have read that it was common practice to install these old ignition systems as a postive ground. I need to install a new 6 volt battery. How can I tell if it was originally installed as a postive ground so I can install the new battery the same way? Or does it make a difference?
