When I was younger my dad used to borrow the neighbors farmall cub with a flail mower to cut our grass when the allis Chalmers D10 wasn't working. The blades should last a hard time and are really not hard to change, just really a time consuming, tedious job. Not sure why people don't use them much anymore, but I must say I don't remember how well they cut a yard. I've seen them used on the highway of course but that is alot taller grass than would be cut in a yard.
