Here in America's Dairyland, we throw silage whenever we can, pack about 16,000 square bales a year for indoor cattle, and the rest is round bale. They are the biggest item of hay you can make, and if you wanted to stack them in a triangle with 3 on the base and cover it with a tarp. They aren't the most efficient when it comes to storage, but they require minimal labor and are great for cattle fed outside. Hopefully, when we put up our 4th and 5th silos, we won't have to round bale anymore. Silage is the best way to feed cattle, followed by little square bales, and round bales. Big squares are about half of a round bale, making them great if you want to ship them out or feed small amounts of animals, such as a couple horses, sheep, or big game such as elk and deer. For my operation, there is no need or possible use for large squares. Just my opinion.
