The biggest factor is labor cost. Next factor is storage/preservation. If you have exsisting barn space and family labor or must maintain farm hands year around small square bales are more of an option. If you do not have barns for storage and work alone or with limited help round bales offer more advantages. Most every livestock producer would love the luxury of feeding quality hay that had been stored inside. Economics rules and you have to make the best play on the hand you are dealt.
