no can back up!! No shift .

I want to get my new 460D IHC. home. It won't go into reverse. When I shove the shifter to high side it goes into more than on gear,, and locks up the transmision. I can pull it back up but it will not go into nuteral, I have to move the main shifter inbeween gears to let the engine Idle.. It feels like the reverse lever is pulling a slide in and out but nothing happens.... I do not have a book for it nor acess to one at this time. thanks
