A lightbulb doesnt 'explode' when touched with liquid. When a cold liquid touches a hot lightbulb the glass shatters due to local stress cuased by the glass shrinking rapidly in that spot. As the buld is under vacuum, it implodes, causing a similar sounding 'pop'. I remember this happening to my mother when she was cleaning a lamp with a wet towel when I was a kid, and my nine year old daughter just discovered this phenomina a week back doing the same. Of course, the hot flash of the filament burning when suddenly exposed to air when this happens is not so safe when the cool liquid is also highly flamable.... -Ken
