Hardened Grease Removal

I was wondering what a person could use to soften up some old grease that is where the front axle mounts to the frame? I just got the old gal last summer and trying to treat her right(63' MF35).I have pulled the grease fitting and dug out as much as possibe with a small screwdriver but can't get it to budge when trying to grease,fitting is ok. Any ideas that might help? Thanks to any and all!
