when you say backfire,does it fire thru the carb,or thru the exhaust? i would think since it happens after the ign.switch is turned off,the backfire is in the exhaust.this is caused because the exhaust manifold is hot and gas,air mixture is being exhausted in the manifold,where it explodes.you may stop this by idling the engine a minute or so before you turn off the switch.
