I had the exact same thing happen on my International 350, replaced and tried everything, just discovered that the coil was connected backwards when it was switched to 12 volt some time ago. On 6 volt positive ground systems the positive coil wire goes to the distributor. On 12 volt negative ground systems the negative coil wire goes to the distributor. It will run either way but the spark is hotter when hooked up correctly. Mine is running GREAT now.
