Runs better when you're "jumping an arc" because the resistance is increased (I think). Can't remember what someone said this indicated, but had to do with ignition components. Are they solid-core wires? I'm pretty sure that's what you need on a mag ignition. Also check plug gap, maybe tighten it up a bit, and check plugs for fouling, and maybe run a little hotter range.

Also, "new" plugs right out of the box have been known to be bad.
