Drew- I did that fantasy and there is lots of good advice on this post. 1)Test your soil and water supply BEFORE anything else. Check your county agent for good advice you have already paid for. Learn about bentonite if you have retention problems 2) Consider hiring it both for cost and responsibility. I had trouble getting firm bids but $3-7K seems about right for a 3/4 acre hole. 3) We wound up doing it by the buy an old clunker and dig it yourself method. We used a TD 18 with a 2 way blade. Pretty crude and with parts it probably cost us as much as hiring it would have but we had fun and learned a lot. If you are near central Indiana you can buy the TD for $4,000. It runs great and is almost ready to go. Good Luck.
