Terry,Different tractors have different tolerances. I have a JD 1050 with loader. I had a line leak and had to add fluid. After adding fluid the flow rate gradually slowed. I replaced the filter and had no change. I then drained the fluid and cleaned the strainer in the bottom of the transmission put on another new filter and refilled the transmission with a universal Hydraulic/Transmission fluid that is supposed to be equivalent to HY-Guard and HY-Tran. Things worked fine until I operated the tractor in cool weather then the hydraulics slowed again. Once again a waxy film coated the inside of the strainer reducing the oil flow to the pump. I talked to a long-time JD shop manager and he said they had seen the problem before with the 50 series tractors (Yanmar built) and suggested using JD fluid. He said that the older larger tractors did not seem as sensitive. I talked to others who said about the same. In my area there is about $10 difference in the price of a 5-gallon container of JD fluid and generic. I feel my time cleaning strainers (must drain all the fluid) is worth more than the extra $15 or $20 to use JD or CIH fluid in my tractors. The few extra dollars eliminates the question of is it compatible? and gives you a chance to know your dealer or parts person. If your dealer only sees you when you need items that you absolutely can not purchase elsewhere you will likely get very impersonal service when you have problems.

In our particular hobby, we enjoy the nostalgic return to the days of our youth as we recreate many of the scenes that took place on the family farm that served as the stage for the first few acts of the play that is our live
