You can drop down to US 93, head thru Kalispell, down to Missoula. That's all pretty nice country thru there. Flathead Lake is really nice. If it's summer, I could recommend taking the Little Joe from St. Regis, Montana over the pass into Idaho to St. Maries. This follows the St Joe River, and is very nice country, no farms though, all timber and mountains....St. Maries is where I'm at. You'd have to check in St. Regis to see if this road is open. It's usually closed in the winter, and be sure to gas up in St. Regis, no gas until St. Maries.
