Most recommendations that I have read indicate the need for a complete break-in prior to using a synthetic motor oil just to get the rings to seat properly. For my pick-up, Toyota recommends at least 5000 miles before using a synthetic motor oil. I would think that tractor engines should also undergo some type of break-in period on regular petroleum oil after a complete overhaul.
