You have my situation, 5 acres. I'd say any tractor from 30HP on up with 3PH and PTO. That would be a model from a company still in business
like Ford. Nice thing about Ford is there are still a lot of old 9N,8N tractors you can have fixed up for 1/3 the cost of a Kubota. The oldies
can be purchased for around 1000$ and put another
1500 in it and you would have an excellent machine.
If you want to roto till instead of the conventional mould board plow/harrow, then that takes you out of the reliable oldies. You'll need PTO that is full time which the oldies don't have. (by the way if your land is stoney, roto tilling will be tough on the equipment). Diesel machines
are slow turners and deliver a lot of torque and save you fuel costs and seem to live longer, but are a bummer in cold weather if not in top condition.
Kubota is fine if you can afford it. Up here
a 4X4 goes 30000$ plus. If I purchased one for 5 acres I wouldn't see the return for 20 years. Besides I'm still a bit leary on Japanese working machines. Branson makes a Kubota clone which could be a little cheaper.
I have a massey harris 30, and another for parts which is a drawback for not having a company in existance. I put a 3PH on it and it's just right for the size of property.
