I read some where I think that it was supposed to be around 60 Degs. I used to stick this probe in that my meter uses to measure temp with. Our problem is the sun warms things up real nice then you get ancey about planting and the crop gets about 1 inch high and a late frost come in and kills everthing. I have found it dosen't seem to do any good planting early it will be the same size even when I replant at the right time compared to the ones that made it thru the frost planted earlyer. I live at the 2,800 ft level and gets cold at night for a while longer then in the valleys. We have been watching the birds and different types of wild plants for the last 5 years and noted the times they came and started to bloom and that has helped with our starting date to plant. It seems to change every year. Mark H.
