Pumpkins. cheap seed, they take over the feild in midsummer, all you have to do is weed them carefully until they shoot shade leaves, then the weeds dont grow. stand them up in late july, early august, and dont touch them until you sell them. everyone buys pumpkins, and the low maintainance allows quality time elsewhere. i would do a whole range myself, corn selectively planted, tomatoes, flower for mothers day, squash, watermelons, etc... But these arent farm kids. better to let them see the fruit of their labor without countless hours of knee level feild work. its pretty dramatic watching a well planted pumpkin patch grow anyway.
