Chiming in late, as usual. The compacts are filling the same needs that, for example, prompted IH to come out with the Cub after theyalready had the A,B,H and M. Or, perhaps more appropriately, the C. Bigger but more versatile than the B. With a budget restraining you, verstatility means more utility in a single machine. I'm not fond of the notion of them being foreign built nor the (almost) interchangeable nameplates, but if that keeps them affordable for the guys that make a living on them, then that may be the only way we can have them. As for the yuppies buying them, some of their ways can get on my nerves at times, too, but I can't come up with anything wrong with the notion of anyone finding joy, inner peace, satisfaction or whatever it is that does it for any of us, in working a piece of ground. Me, I have some sentimental reasons for liking old iron, the work and time I expend on my tractors is good for my soul, and I'm fortunate that most of the work I have to do on our place can be done by the tractors I love. But, to be truthful, if I hadn't had the experience of owning cars that could still be worked on under a tree when I was a kid, I might not have had the gumption to get into rebuilding and mechanicking, and had me one of the new ones. I'm not sure though, that My Sweet would have let me lay out the cash for one. But she bought my 51 SuperC for my birthday. She had her doubts when I pulled the head, and just looked away when I lifted the crankcase off, very nearly lost it when she saw the rods with no pistons atached to them, but she was only slightly less happy than I was when I got everything back together and the old girl fired up. My nickel's worth. I'll be quiet now. Y'all have a good evening! Scotty
