Hey Guys, Earplugs are not the best way to go. I spent 5 years in a U.S. Navy diesel submarine (snorkel type) and another 30 years in civilian ship engine rooms. I always wore earplugs in the engine rooms. The last 15 years I had to sign a hearing wavier and agree to wear plugs & muffs in order to renew my license. Exposure time is everything. Weve all been exposed to muzzle blast from say a 30-06. Makes you deaf for a short time doesnt it? A fairly low noise level in the 80-90 db range over your working life will make you just as deaf, only permanently. Check the noise suppression range and buy the best muffs. Earplugs are ok for short times but wear the muffs over them when you can. Joe, deafer than a damn post.
