Here a person can make a real mess by
disking first, then trying to plow. Tall grass or
corntalks or such can plug a plow up real bad.
(Maybe this isn't a problem if you are in a
much drier climate.) It's often better to plow
what you have, and see how that works. If the
plow plugs up real bad, then try disking.
Sometimes it needs a lot of disking once you
start, or it will plug up the plow even worse.
So, better to start out just plowing, if it works
great! If you disk first and that makes it worse,
then you can't go back again...

Mostly, it would seem to be a waste of time to
disk first & then plow. Plowing is the heavy
tillage, no point in wasting fuel & equipment.
We plow in fall, and winter busts things up,
rots down anything not plowed under. But that
is here in my climate & soils. Can be a very
different world where you live.
