If one drop of calcium gets between the rim and tube it will rust out your rims as you have found out. If they aren't too far gone you could sandblast them and paint. I would never put calcium back in although if you are careful and never get a leak it is OK. You can use used automotive antifreeze, although as some have pointed out it is somewhat of a hazzard if you leak it out somewhere. Or non toxic RV antifreeze. Or wheel weights. Less bother than liquid, but harder to find maybe.
