As a Kid I did 1000's of miles of "Road Work" with H's, Super H's, M's 4010's etc. I'd always start in a lower gear and shift up once or twice but only when pulling up a steep hill would I ever down shift. The T/A made that unneccessary on the Super M-TA and 450. Pulling up to a stopsign or gate to turn off the road I'd always start stopping LONG in advance of needing to really jam on the brakes!
