Got a suprise when I took the oil pan off my old farm truck last fall to change the automatic transmission fluid. When I got it rebuilt a few years ago, the mechanic put a magnet on the oil pan. It had collected a suprising amount of magnetic dust and dirt over the few years it had been in the transmission. Good idea, and any oil pan I take off from now on will have one when it goes back on!
