I have a good quality oil pressure gage on my slant six and have used the same gage for the last 3 slant sixes, since 1973 in fact. It will show a drop in pressue of a couple pounds when the oil starts to get old and thinner from contamination. This usually happens at about 1500 miles. I try to change at 2000 or at the most 2500 miles. Pressure goes right back to where it was before. I keep my engine running warm in the winter to help the oil to stay warm, insulate the oil filter in the winter too for the same reason. I always change the filter when changing the oil.
