That's a great suggestion, I don't think it should be TOO expensive, because as you say, most of it is done with computers now. You might also check with screen printers in your area, they could also do it. The simpler the graphic, the cheaper it will be, the longer the graphic designer has to sit in front of the computer, the price keeps going up. If you had an example they could scan and then clean up, that would help too. Also, if you do this, you could get several copies made and sell them to recoup some or all of the cost. The price is in the design, not the production. You can probably have 100 custom decals made for not much more than 1 or 2.
