I recommend using the newer "low-temp" Silver Solder to repair the float...it flows much better than regular Solder....makes very good electrical Solder joints, too...
It costs more, but it is a real pleasure to use..!!!
You use a regular Soldering Iron, and I have not had any problems with it, like I sometimes have with regular Solder...
