Mike, If you end up having to repair this float, cool it off in the freezer. Heat a pan of water up just under boiling. Submerge the float fully. The hot water will expand the cold air in the float and form bubbles at the crack. Take the float out of the water and drill a small hole (1/16") above the crack as oriented when you will solder it. Shake any residual water/gas out via the drilled hole. You might want to put the float in a warm area (oven?) overnight to dry the inside. Solder the crack first and then the hole you drilled. This type of repair is best attempted when the wife is visiting her mother overnight. Joe
