The A is similar size to the three tractors I have restored. A gallon of paint is more than enough. The right way to paint it is to disassemble everything, sand blast or wirebrush all the old paint off, then prime, repaint and reassemble. That is what I do, but it is a big project. Others just want a repaint job and don't disassemble. If you do that, clean the tractor as well as possible with at least a pressure washer. Better is a steam cleaner. Then mask or remove everything not intended to be red, then paint red. No need to use primer with this method. I agree with RayTasch: Don't rebuild the A unless you just want to. It doesn't sound necessary on your tractor.
