It dose have a big rear end!! I don't think it will ever blow the gears. I guess when they made them it was cheaper to use one that was made allready then design and manufacture it. That way they just had to weld it up and it gave it a strong starting point for the frame. It has a oilbath filter nice and big too keep the grass dust out? Mayde more so for if you used it plowing a garden. Going to put this one to use mowing my fence lines for fire protection insted of my new John Deere Lawn Mower. I think it will hold up better. It has 3-12 inch blades under the mower deck. Mark H.
