JM, Zane is right on the theory and cost (easier to just replace) of mechanical tube type temp gauges. However, not knowing the tractor type and the way you asked is it "the sending unit or gauge", I wondered if you're referring to electric gauges???? If so, in cars, its usually the sender since the gauge is inside and protected, but in tractors, its the gauge itself that often gets water or freezing or condensation damage. You can check needle deflection on electric ones by shorting out the sensor connection wire to ground (assuming voltage at gauge) and seeing if the gauge moves. (Senders are simply thermistors or resistors that change value according to temp) If it does, its probably the sender, if not, probably the gauge. Is there a tube covered partially by spiral type windings that goes to your water jacket or is there a wire??? Let me and old Zane know what you find. John T in Indiana jmn50@msn.com
