Andy, I just took my Cockshutt distributor out yesterday to install new points, and I didnt pay much attention, just marked rotor position and stuck back in, but I thought it was one of those that had a slot that would only go back in either correct or 180 degrees out. Its an easy mistake to make when timing for some people to bring number one cylinder up to top and point the rotor at the number one plug wire, but it can be 180 degrees out if the number one piston is up on the exhaust stroke versus the correct compression stroke !!!!!! Is that possible in your case??? If so youre 180 out which is easy to remedy. Get number one up tdc on compression then install dist with its rotor pointing to number one wire and then fime tune adjust timing while trying to start it to get it right.
