The last decade or so they have gone to using some liquid version here that is just terrible rusting up everything here in Minnesota.
As well they have gone to grinding in rumble strips for the center line of the road. These little divots hold the salt water all winter long, keeping a fresh supply of liquid spray resetting the road every single day keeping the white crusty chemical spraying your vehicle on every mile you drive in winter.
