I had squirrels chew up two sets of spark plug wires in a 1979 Toyota Carolla. They were the kind that were sunk down through the valve cover so one couldn't just make up another set from parts. Very expensive. I finally solved the problem.
I took 1/4" clear plastic tubing and slit it long ways so I could open it up and slide it over the wires. Squirrels never bother it after that. Also around that time, Honda was having problems with mice chewing up their wiring. They made "Honda Rodent Tape" to cover the wires with. It was made with capzasin so mice would not chew on it. Replaced a couple ox sensors before I finally found that tape. The mice would chew off the wire right at the OX sensor so one could not repair it.
I kill any squirrel that decides to move onto my property. They have five acres to run around in. But they choose to dig under my storage sheds.
