well i have never heard of 20-50 oil for a diesel engine only castol 20-50 for gas engines and have been using 20-50 for about 50 years or more.. , nor 20-40. dont know what part of the world u are in to have 20-40 oil. the important thing is diesel uses a series 3 oil or used to . its pretty straight forward that in cold weather its a 20 wt and when warm acts like a 50 wt. as to why its called multi-grade. diesel oil was always 15-40 in the multigrade , but now a days with these synthetic oils its 0-40 or 5-40 but u need to read the label to make sure its Deisel compatible. and its almost impossible to find 15-40 around here last few years.
