OTA Monarch Tractor from 1951.
db4600 asked for some information on OTA.
They were a company set up in the 1940's in Coventry, England called Oak Tree Appliances with the idea of building a light car and tractor that were affordable in a restricted economy of the time. The tractor was originally designed as a three wheel model and was powered by a Ford 10 hp engine, similar to the one that was used in the English Ford car range of Anglia, Prefect and Popular. The tractor performed well and was well liked by small farmers and horticultural growers, being very manoeuvrable and light. It had independent hydraulics powered by an engine driven hydraulic pump.
Like many companies at the time, OTA were under-capitalised and by the early 1950's, tractors like the Ferguson TE range had taken the market for a light tractor. OTA eventually sold the Monarch tractor production to the Singer Motor Company, who in turn, were taken over by the Rootes Group, and the tractor discontinued. Rootes, in turn were taken over by Chrysler.
