Another view of the Keukenhof Gardens near Amsterdam. One of the comments from yesterday was the fact that tulips, daffodils and hyacinths were growing under trees, did you also notice that all the different colours were separated? There is a secret, none of the bulbs are planted in the ground!!! The gardens are the display area of Dutch bulb growers and all the bulbs are planted in compost, in plastic trays. The flowers are grown on in greenhouses then, just before flowering, are taken into the garden and buried in the soil. That way, when the blooms start to fade, another tray of the same variety but slightly later in flowering is used to replace the tray of fading ones. The different flower beds can have the varieties and plants changed nearly overnight by a number of gardeners.
