British Austin tractor made in France. After WW1, in the 1920's, British makers looked into tractor production to rival the Fordson F. Like quite a few others, this one was built by Herbert Austin who was making Austin cars at a factory in Birmingham, with some success. The Austin 7 was very popular. But the problem was volume and cost when selling against the Fordson, and, although this tractor was more powerful, well built and reliable, it could not match the Fordson for price. Austin moved the factory to France, where he received French government help, and the tractor became very popular there and in other parts of Europe. In the late 1930's and early 1940's a diesel version was produced but World War 2 intervened and the factory was taken over for German war production.
