You get around a bad coil, with a good coil.
Bring some 12ga hookup wire with you to run a power wire from the battery to the coil, bypassing the ignition switch.
Before you do anything else remove the distributor cap and clean the points. Most likely that's all it needs to get spark. If that doesn't help, then move on to the coil.
