The reason is states 20W is its what they had 60 years ago, if it was being built today it would tell you to use universal trans/hydraulic. You can use non-det 20W if you can find it. If not use universal trans hydraulic and be happy. Do not use detergent 20W motor oil and its not due to the often repeated foaming fallacy. Detergent oil does not foam. You do not want detergent oil because you have no filtration and you want dirt to settle out, not circulate.
