> For most families food costs are rising much faster than gasoline costs. Someone is making money there too, is that excessive or wrong too?
I think we all complain about the inflation that hits us. Not wrong.
Are we blaming the right people when we complain? That might be the better question. The gas station attendant wants a pay raise, the gas station owner faces more regulation, the big oil companies face more regulation and taxes. Everyone has to adjust to fit in. This week or next week one of those catches a break and makes a bundle and it looks unfair, but over a 5 year average each of those segments faces a lot of hardships and setbacks on the equity scale....
Who do we blame?
You bring up food costs.
Most people use large volumes of processed foods. If you buy fresh veggies or a quarter of beef or a bushel of wheat your costs wont be all that much higher than they have been historically. Who does that tho - there is a small market of folk returning to that, but living in apartments no one has skills or room or ability to do that these days. But people buy pre made food ready for the oven or microwave or air fryer. Or eat out fast food, gas station food. These processed foods use a lot of labor and energy to be ready to eat in 15 minutes. The inflation is in the energy and labor used to prepare those foods for you.
Just saw this chart on the other farm forum, might help show where so many have their food dollar going.
We can be mad about food inflation, but be sure to mad at the right people.
