If it exhibits the same symptoms with the rear wheels off the ground, and the wheels turn freely, I would say you have problems in the transmission, or cross leaks in the clutch control circuit, allowing one clutch to drag while the other is engaged. Cut the trans filter open; lot of metal, transmission rouble. Nothing noteworthy, blown gasket on control valve or seal ring on input shaft. Screw a new filter on and have someone do a pressure test. I think the engine heating up is a separate problem. If the trans was getting hot enough to heat the motor , the trans light on the console would be lit. Another possibility is that there may be nothing wrong with the power train at all. It may just feel doggy as a result from faulty overhaul. Low compression will make black smoke if you push it.
