What you are referring to as the "shifter speed" is probably "Dual Power". The dual power was introduced with the 8000 and gives you a high low shift under full, load power shift unit. It is a very strong, reliable auxiliary, and is shifted by pressing on one of two buttons or a rocker on the floor under the steering wheel. The Ford 401 in the turboed 9000 had cavitation problems but not in the 8000. I would say that you can't go wrong for $4,000.
