I found some more information on this topic. Yes they are blind holes or at least some are. I havent gone back and looked yet. Im gonna clean these holes out before I replace the studs. It just seemed odd that some of the studs had this small cut through the threads and some didnt. Im not gonna put any sealant on these in case this slot has a function.
