It is not fair to compare one shingle against another shingle based on sq ft coverage.
Yes you have 3 tab and architectural shingles. But it goes a lot deeper than that. You got different class shingles. It could be made for impact resistant. It could be a 100 mph wind shingle. It could be a 150 mph wind shingle. Or a combination of several different classes to resist or stand up to several different situations.
