I've done both the hit the ball on the drawbar and the loosen the fitting a little routine. While I've never tried them, Parker makes a screw to connect coupling that looks a lot like ones that were used 60-70 years ago. Basically slide the male end into position and start turning the nut on the female coupling, as the threads engage, the male end is pulled into position. No eaks, no problem coupling under pressure. Not as quick as a standard connection, but way faster than fighting with one under pressure. The old ones you coud tighten by hand, but that was when 1000 psi was high pressure.
